The Experience: When we first arrived at Rady’s, we were offered the option of staying across the street at the Ronald McDonald House. At this point, Blake was on life-support and we knew we were in for the long haul. However, we declined as we live relatively close to the hospital and there were many other families from farther away that we knew could benefit. Our plan was to stay/sleep in the ICU room next to Blake and go home to shower and spend time with Scarlett. We did however get to utilize the Ronald McDonald House facility, had access to their playground and was provided meals during our initial 3-month stay and subsequent admissions.

The Mission: Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a “home-away-from-home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals.

The Ask: If you are interested in giving or volunteering your time – this charity is invaluable, especially to families with a child requiring long-term critical care. For more information, click here: rmhcsd.org
