What an incredible day! A beautiful day among wonderful people. We really had no idea what to expect – but today’s event far exceeded expectations.
It was amazing to be surrounded by friends, family, coworkers and some very welcomed yet unexpected visitors. Vladimir and Irina were the first set of special guests. They are the couple whose house we barged into and who helped us in a time of desperation. We were strangers a year ago, and today it was heart-warming to watch Vlad scoop up Blake like his own. He paraded around with Blake proudly on his shoulders. And soon after their arrival my jaw dropped. I’ve had an image in my head of the woman who revived Blake in the ambulance. We haven’t encountered her on our visits to the station, but today, on her day off, she appeared with her husband. There just were no words to properly express our gratitude to Carolyn, but hopefully our emotion spoke volumes.
Shortly after she left, our favorite fire truck #24 rolled up honking their horn. Amazing. All the kiddos had the chance to take pictures on the truck and meet some real life heros.
And then there were our vendors. Chip’s Beach Eats food truck had special signage for Blake. Big Dog Custom Bartending had kid-friendly concoctions with the lizard theme, and Kelsey’s Colors had created special face-painting options and glitter tattoos with lizards incorporated. We hadn’t specified any of those items, but it made the day extra special for us and Blake.
Most importantly, with well-over 100 guests, we received quite the mountain of toy donations for Rady Children’s Hospital. We know first hand that each one will be put to good use and bring a smile to the kids in the CVICU.
With such a great turnout, unfortunately we did not get nearly enough time with anyone, nor did we do a good job capturing our time together. If you took pictures, please send them to us!
For all of you there today and in spirit, THANK YOU for your continued support, good thoughts and generous donations. We feel the love and are so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people. Because of you, today truly was a special day.
