Scarlett has been taking Taekwondo for a little over a year now. It’s been good for her for so many reasons – the discipline, the skills, new friendships, the encouragement to do and be her best. She had gone from having a tight family support system and built-in best friend in Bockies, to having no brother, losing her grandmother (who helped watch her every day of the 5 months Blake was in the hospital), to experiencing the lockdown of this pandemic alone with no other children. Our ATA Black Belt Academy became the routine, connection and community she and our little family needed.
Last week the owner pulled my Dad and I aside. She told us of another young boy who has been taking classes there. His older brother had recently died suddenly of a heart issue, and the family was going to have to forego Taekwondo to cut down on their expenses. She said to us, “We really wanted to support them, so we offered them a scholarship in honor of Blake.”
We are so touched by their generosity, and our hearts go out to that family just starting this journey…
