On the Road

I love when opportunities to show kindness present themselves. ❤ Like this morning- it was before dawn, dark, and deserted at a Chevron in the middle-of-nowhere Utah. As I sat in the car while Bill pumped our gas, I noticed a couple (the only other car there or anywhere around) seemingly having difficulty at their pump. I knew those quick, unsure glances our way. I’ve been there- not wanting to bother or comfortable approaching a stranger, but really needing a hand. Blake inspired me into action.

I jumped out of the car and called across to them, “Do you need some help?” After asking again, I realized they spoke very little English, only French. I slowly walked through the credit card process at the pump with them twice, but their cards were not being accepted. Understanding that they were in a bind on the road, with no one manning the station at that time, and likely needing to get somewhere on their road trip, I quickly ran back to our car, and grabbed my card with the intention of filling up their tank so they could be on their way. Sweetly, she pulled out $20 US and handed it to me with endless “Merci beaucoup”s.

Having felt helpless in many situations abroad myself, my heart was full returning the favor to these travelers. Good deeds always for you, Blakies. 💙
