Learning Through Art

I donated through Donors Choose for a school project for grades 3-: Picturing Success Through Art, art supplies such as brushes, paint, chalk, oil pastels, and clay to foster literacy skills through art. Nearly all students come from low income households. The teacher is focused on this particular method where students draft their ideas in pictures first, before the writing process. They learn how to create drawings that tell a story, and write words that paint pictures. This multimodal approach helps students access rich descriptive language, enriching their vocabulary, which is a very low area with the population of children I work with. It has been proven effective for a wide range of learners.
