The Gift of a Gift Card

During one of the chilly torrential downpours this week, I delivered a Starbucks gift card (with Blake’s story included) to each of the neighborhood crossing guards. They are out on our busy intersections and freeway entrances volunteering their time twice a day, before and after school, no matter the weather, to keep us all safe. And this past week they were really getting pelted, out there alone since kids were being driven to school.

I ran over, introduced myself, thanked them for being out there and asked them to please go warm up and get a hot drink after leaving their posts. It was met with smiles and gratitude. And I think they felt good for being acknowledged out there.
